Partnership with Abu Dhabi Department of Education & Knowledge

In 2009, Beaconhouse entered into a public-private partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), formerly known as Abu Dhabi Education Council, UAE, to improve the quality of education of public schools. Beaconhouse was selected amongst well known international players and awarded operational management of four secondary schools, to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to improve the overall quality standards of teaching along with creating a conducive learning environment for students.

Objectives:

  • To improve the quality of learning and student performance outcomes
  • To enhance leadership skills
  • To raise teaching quality
  • To promote UAE heritage and culture
  • To strengthen environment and community linkage

Impact:

  • 1,600 students benefited from the programme
  • About 80 teachers and staff members were equipped with ADEK certification skills and trained on curriculum and standards, integrating technology in teaching and learning
  • A diverse team of 40 staff members were brought in from around the world
  • Grade 10 to 12 students were prepared for international assessments such as CEPA, IELTS, EMSA, PIRL, PISA or TIMSS initiated by ADEK
  • Accredited courses on leadership and management were organised for the school leadership

Punjab School Support Programme (PSSP)

In 2016, Beaconhouse initiated the Punjab School Support Programme with 48 government primary schools in Gujranwala district, Punjab, Pakistan, to manage school operations and leadership along with recruitment and training of teaching and non-teaching staff.

Objectives:

  • To provide quality education
  • To improve enrolment of out-of-school-children and reduce drop-out ratio, with a special focus on girls
  • To conduct regular and continuous training programmes and enhance staff knowledge and teaching techniques 
  • To ensure a safe and secure learning environment

Impact:

  • The project has benefited more than 12,000 children and created jobs for over 370 individuals
  • Enrolment increased from 3,200 to approximately 11,800 within four years, including almost 3,000 new student enrolments during Covid-19 (academic year 2020 – 2021)
  • Close to 450 qualified teachers and support staff were recruited
  • About 50 teacher training sessions conducted and 370 head teachers and teachers trained every year for the past four years (i.e. once a year)
  • Quality Assurance Test (QAT) for 2018 was 100% and 98% for 2019 – 2020
  • Punjab Examination Commission results from 2017 to 2019 were above 95% 

School Management and Operations

In 2016, the Sindh Education and Literacy Department (SELD), a USAID project, outsourced the management and administration of Government High School Kolab Jial. Through Public Private Partnership (PPP), SELD aims to improve the functioning of the public school by introducing innovations, modernising the education system and addressing management gaps.

Objectives:

  • To provide quality education to girls and boys
  • To improve student enrolment and retention, with a special focus on girls
  • To continuously build the capacity of teaching and non-teaching staff to enhance their knowledge and teaching practices
  • To recruit qualified teachers
  • To ensure a safe and secure learning environment

Impact:

  • Student enrolment increased to 550
  • 8,800 students assessed over four years
  • Extensive and comprehensive online training and community awareness programmes for implementation of Covid-19SOPs

Quality and Service Delivery Improvement

In 2019, the Project Management Unit (PMU) of Elementary and Secondary Education, Government of Azad Jammu Kashmir acquired consultancy services of Beaconhouse for its one-year project ‘Quality and Service Delivery Improvement for 10 Districts of AJK’  to improve access to quality education in public schools.

Objectives:

  • To improve access to quality education for girls and boys, through a better teaching-learning environment.
  • To enhance the capacities of teachers, parents and education managers
  • To provide a conducive learning environment to the boys and girls of AJ&K
  • To provide teaching-learning material (TLM) to the project schools after completion of school buildings

Impact:

  • Improved access to education for 52,000 students
  • Capacity building of 2,500 teachers, Head Teachers, Master Trainers, Educational Managers and School Management Committees (SMCs)
  • Provision of TLM and textbooks for 52,000 students in 277 schools
  • Established early childhood education classrooms in 277 schools
  • 277 functional School Management Committees in 10 districts of AJK

Early Grade Assessment

In 2014, Beaconhouse was engaged in a project of the Department for International Development (DFID), with the Education Fund for Sindh, a non-profit organisation, running a voucher programme with private schools, to improve school enrolment rates by encouraging out-of-school kids to join school.

Objectives:

  • To enrol out-of-school-children
  • To build capacity of teachers on early grade assessment tools for Grades 1 & 2
  • To conduct student assessments using the Early Grade Assessment (EGA) tools

Impact:

  • Assessed over 100,000 students in less privileged areas
  • Trained 3,000 teachers on EGA
  • Enrolled approximately 30,000 out-of-school students
  • Improved enrolment in about 300 schools
